Bainbridge High School ranked among America's top High Schools!

BHS and EHHS ranked among America's top high schools

U.S. News and World Report just released its list of the best high schools in the country. Ranking nearly 22,000 public high schools, Bainbridge High School was awarded a Gold Medal, placing them among the top 500 high schools in the nation. BHS ranked  #6 in Washington State and #212 in the nation.  Eagle Harbor High School was awarded a Silver Medal and ranked #40 in Washington State and #1,583 nationally.

Bainbridge High School also was again designated as one of the U.S. News  Best High Schools for Math and Science, ranking #68 in the nation.

The three-step process in determining the best high schools takes the following into account:

  1. Schools serve all their students well.
  2. Performance on state proficiency tests.
  3. Degree to which schools prepared student for college-level work. This is based on Advanced Placement test results.

In these first two steps of the process to determine the best high schools, analysts look at reading and math scores on state proficiency exams, including the performance of the school's least advantaged students.

The methodology requires that schools pass step 1 in order to be reviewed on step 2, and to pass step 2 in order to be a part of step 3.

Researchers analyzed the nearly 22,000 public high schools. Of those schools, the top 4,877 were ranked nationally.

Teachers, administrators and students make it possible for both BHS and EHHS to be designated by U.S. News among the nation's top high schools.

Bainbridge Island and Kristi Nelson featured on Alaska Airlines video

Where Else? Sotheby's from Timothy Boyd on Vimeo.

I am excited (and slightly nervous) to announce that I am featured in this video to be played on Alaska Airlines digi E players. It was super fun to film and comletely ad-lib- (although we did several takes). I think it will be a great way to promote our lovely island and our office listings. I am so proud to be a part of a company who thinks outside of the box for marketing.  Bainbridge Island real estate and what it is like to live on Bainbridge Island are captured in this short movie. Look at it and let me know what you think!

Heyday Farm: From Buffalo? to Chickens and Potatoes

Recently my daughter came home from a field trip with her first grade class at Blakely Elementary. She was so excited that she had participated in planting potatoes at Heyday Farm. Little did she know that she was becoming a part of history! In the 1940’s Horace & Nelly Winney purchased 18 1/2 acres near Old Mill Road & McDonald Road on which to raise their family, and for a time, even buffalo, as well as other livestock . Recently this historic property (now about 25 acres) was purchased by Steve Romein & Ty Cramer, who are working closely with Bainbridge Island non-profit groups, Friends of the Farm and Bainbridge Island Land Trust to keep it a working farm.  It is now home to farmers & interns who are producing local, organic food, making this unique property an important  link between Bainbridge Island’s past and future.

This is just another fantastic reason to live on Bainbridge. I hope to see you out at the farm this summer as my daughters and I go out to help tend to the crops! For more information about these local organizations, click on the links above.
